Until it is completely dry, and the product label has the final say.
Keep pets off any treated or splashed surface until it is completely dry. How long that takes depends on the product and the weather. As an example, the label of one widely sold benzalkonium chloride (BAC) cleaner says to keep children and animals off treated surfaces “until completely dry (often 5–6 hours)”. On a cold, still, damp day it can take longer. The label of the product used on your roof is the rule to follow, so ask the specialist what theirs says.
On the day of a roof treatment, the simplest plan is pets indoors from before the work starts until the paths, patio and lawn edges around the house are dry.
Your dog is never going to walk on the roof. The risk is lower down:
Cats groom, so anything on their paws or coat ends up in their mouth. International Cat Care has warned about benzalkonium chloride, which is found in many household disinfectants and patio cleaners: cats are exposed by licking or walking on treated surfaces and then grooming. The symptoms it lists include drooling, a red and inflamed tongue, a painful mouth and loss of appetite, a high temperature and irritated skin, often appearing several hours after contact. The Veterinary Poisons Information Service reported around 70 calls a year about cats and this chemical.
The charity’s advice is to keep cats off treated surfaces until they are completely dry, and it notes that treated areas which get wet again may still carry the product. So keep an eye on puddles after the next shower too.

It can be while wet. Cats walk on or lick treated surfaces and then groom, which can cause drooling, a sore inflamed mouth and a high temperature. Keep cats indoors until everything is completely dry.
Wash it off with plenty of water and contact your vet straight away, without waiting for symptoms. Tell them the name of the product if you know it.
